Digipak Analysis (Abbie)
The elements that are used in digipaks are often similar when promoting their music. One of the most important elements to have onto a CD is the name of the band and the title of their album. This makes it easier for potential targets and fans to recognize the artist and know if the album is newly released. Depending on the bands style, you’d often find that the artist have their photograph on the CD, such as in the band Green Day case. From the look of this cd, on the middle left, it looks like they have reviews placed onto the cd to entice the potential audience and it also includes the copyright located on the top right.
Going across the four section of the digipak, the band is only featured onto the digipak three times; it has the main leader photographed in the centre middle while the other two band member dances behind him, in a black and white effect while the rest of the digipak is in vibrant colours. One thing I have noticed is their signature style on the Cd cover, which is a cartoon version of themselves which I which I would associate as a characteristic as the effect is seen on many Green Day Album cover. Overall the concept of the digipak uses a simple black and white effect, then uses three bright colours to makes the cover a bit more interesting. It could be used to show two sides to the personality of the band such as the black and white showing a sad touch to the artist but they are also very happy and colourful.
The font used on the cover is in a bold cartoon like look and is a similar text to the other Green Day covers, they keep a colour scheme of Green, black and white which would go with the theme of there genre and style of how they present themselves towards the public, I believe this is also another characteristic that is used for the Green day signature. The title ‘International superhits’ means that the band is quite popular around the world and how there catchy songs are often hits due to the style they pursue to make.
The layout shows the band in a relaxed and joking state, which relate the type of style, they play which is Alternative rock. The main audience for this band could be towards a variety of audience, but mainly those who enjoy that type of ‘grunge’ look and rock and indie style music, but in general songs by Green Day are often enjoyed by both genders.
